In 'One Day, Something Happens: Paintings of People' the renowned writer and critic Jennifer Higgie, presents a highly personal selection of figurative paintings from the Arts Council Collection, one of the world s largest collections of modern and contemporary British art. Through these works, Higgie teases out common themes, from joy and loneliness to storytelling and theatricality, exploring the limits of painting and figurative representation. 'One Day, Something Happens' presents a journey through contemporary figurative art, and includes an illuminating essay by Higgie, alongside interviews in which she discusses the practice of figurative paintings with five of the featured artists.
