Nick Goss

De Ramp

Published by Josh Lilley on the occasion of De Ramp, Nick Goss’ fourth solo exhibition at Josh Lilley.

This publication took shape at the end of a London summer. Devastation from a series of storms in South Asia, the Southeastern states of the US and the Atlantic filled all the world’s screens. Migration is disaster’s vicious corollary, with histories blurred and lost. To flee is to live with the memory of a colossal disruption and the anticipation of a changed future. The present, and its image, is the only thing that stays still.

The works of De Ramp, like the images of our waterlogged world, are loaded with cues to look forward and look back, while allowing the present a fearsome, challenging ambiguity. Goss pushes the viewer to use the creative acts of painting and looking to better understand our surroundings, and to take responsibility for them.
