Josh Lilley is pleased to announce the opening on Thursday 22nd July, of the milkplus bar, curated by Robin Kirsten. The title for the exhibition refers to the cult drink from Anthony Burgess's novel A Clockwork Orange — laced with drugs for an illegal high of epic proportions, and a surefire escape route from the daily dose of violence and drudgery that typifies the life and times of the characters from the novel. In keeping with this spirit, the works on show tap into the punk energy of a tribal defiance, psychotropic ennui and effervescent rage to hold up fractured elements and the fluttering pulse of this dark pop legacy.

The works form a backdrop to a post-punk London, endorsing a culture of irreverence, disobedience and caustic wit. Melting trees, imitation death, blackout porn, and crystalline songs are some of the fragments laid down in this backdrop. The atmosphere of the milkplus bar highlights the dynamic engine of production present in the ideas and modes of practice generated out of the milkplus effect.
