Josh Lilley is pleased to present No Swans, a solo exhibition by Timothy Lai (b. 1987, Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia). Cast in the jewel-tones of dusk, dawn and inky night, Lai tenderly renders his characters and craggy landscapes with a rich array of gestural brushstrokes. Oscillating flecks of paint, dashes of colour and layered impasto conjure his lush, velveteen scenes where moonlight, or the sun’s first rays, catch at ripples in the water, swans’ feathers and lovers’ brows.
