Holly Hendry
Holly Hendry’s (b. 1990, London, England) sculptural practice toys with architectural scale and manipulates materiality. Her saccharine, often comic visual language explores permeability, concealment and abjection, where chalky slabs of Jesmonite, blown glass, steel and bronze give her sculptures an industrial gravitas belying their porosity and vulnerability. These structures collapse bodily and architectural anatomies into dreamt-up machines– that open and close to reveal fleshy insides, haloed by annotated motion lines and arcing arrows. They are caught in states of fluctuation: mechanical bodies producing, digesting and ailing.
